Directors' Note

Directing Jen Silverman’s Witch has been a surprising and enlightening journey. On its surface, this play seemed merely a fanciful tale of the Devil, the Witch and a town rife with opportunity. But the twists began with the delightful and recognizable and seemingly simple characters who reveal themselves to be most complex and driven by painful histories. Still a relative and time honored tale to tell. But as we have gotten to know this script, we now see Silverman’s genius! She asks us some very uncomfortable questions. Is this a subversive tale of a society beyond repair?
The question of hope, love, the future and what’s worth saving is at the forefront of this story. While Silverman doesn’t offer many answers, she does present us with many, many questions. We wish we could be privy to your post play thoughts on this very arresting subject!
Enjoy the ride home and thank you for coming.
