The three great American institutions: Business, Religion and Politics, collide in the engaging, humorous play by Pulitzer, Tony, and Oscar award-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley. Completing Shanley's "Church and State" trilogy, which includes Doubt and Defiance, Storefront Church examines the intricate, and sometimes tenuous, relationships of a Bronx borough as its residents are confronted with spiritual, financial and moral crossroads.

A constituent's mortgage crisis, a preacher who has lost his spiritual voice, and a banker's multimillion-dollar investment force the borough president to choose between advancing his political career and following a moral compass. As confrontations arise, and lives intersect, the question they all must ask is one that faces us all: What is the relationship between spiritual experience and social action?

"John Patrick Shanley has the gift, always rare among playwrights, of writing scenes that convey both shape and spontaneity...[STOREFRONT CHURCH is] a portrait of our puzzling time, when one's beliefs and one's sense of self must live under constant pressure from forces not wholly seen and not yet fully arrived."     -- The Village Voice

" . . Mr. Shanley's intense engagement with questions of religion and ethics, and how they shape the way people with different perspectives interact, remains distinctive and invigorating . . .  And the more ponderous aspects of 'Storefront Church' are leavened by some of Mr. Shanley's sharpest comic writing in years."     -- The New York Times
