Andrea Jill Higgins – musician, composer
Jill joined the Studio in 2010 and has been working as a pianist, musical director and composer in Arizona for over 30 years. She was nominated for the Governor’s Arts Award in 2009 for her excellence and tenure as an Arizona artist. She holds a Master of Music degree in Musical Theatre Direction from Arizona State University’s Lyric Opera Theatre. Jill served as Music Director of Temple Solel in Paradise Valley for 29 years. Currently she conducts the choir at Kehillah of Arizona in North Phoenix. She also has found time to direct more than 100 musical theatre productions, and to accompany many fine musicians and singers in the Phoenix metro area. Jill is the composer of Babe, An Olympic Musical, based on the life of Babe Didrikson Zaharias, considered by many to be the finest female athlete in history. The musical had successful readings in Arizona and Minnesota, and Jill is currently completing the score for a staged production. She travels throughout the United States and Canada conducting her own compositions and commissioned work, and giving workshops on Jewish liturgical music. Jill was commissioned in 2007 to create a piece in celebration of Israel's 60th birthday as a nation. She is a member of American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and is on the board of the Guild of Temple Musicians.
