Kathleen Mallery Buckstaff - writer
is a writer, performance artist and photographer. As a photographer, I love my macro lenses. They allow me to see beauty close up. One day I wrote in my photo notebook these words: "When I am photographing, I am in a perfect state of grace. I have one eye open looking for beauty, light and love and the other eye is closed, looking inward and listening to my own proddings and the voice of God." It is my intention to bring this same awareness to my work as a performance artist. I love a good story - hearing one or telling one. I like stories that give me goose bumps, or ones that make me belly laugh. I like stories that let me know I’m not alone and ones that make me cry knowing life, even in its pain, is beautiful. My one-woman show Avoiding Calamities and Other Attempts at Life is a collection of these kind of stories. For several years, I worked as a humor columnist for The Los Angeles Times and The Arizona Republic. I have a BA in Creative Writing from Stanford, a MA in Journalism from Stanford and a Certificate of Theological Studies from The Pacific School of Religion. I am married and am the mother of three children.
